Hyperbaric Chambers and Stroke victims

A stroke is an event where:

“There is an interruption of blood flow to the brain as a result of a blood clot.”

So where do hyperbaric chambers get involved?  They don’t melt blood clots. They don’t prevent blood clots. So why am I talking about stroke victims?

The lack of blood flow is starving the cells of oxygen. Hyperbaric chambers dissolve oxygen into the body fluids. The brain is living in fluids, brain fluids. Scans have shown that after a hyperbaric treatment the brain fluids are saturated with oxygen.

Again how does this help a stroke victim?

The oxygen enriched brain fluids can keep the starved brain cells, whose blood supply was cut off, alive.

Isn’t the problem that once the treatment is over the cells will starve again? No, the brain fluids will stay oxygenated for up to 4 hours then head back into the chamber and continue until the body has rerouted the blood to the effected area.

You may ask how quickly does the stroke victim need to get into a chamber?

The sooner the better. But don’t ever give up. I have heard of patients recovering even after waiting weeks to get hyperbaric treatment. The sooner can mean a fuller recovery.

There are all levels of severity of strokes. I am not saying this will help all cases or even some cases. Its just logical that if a cell needs oxygen why not give it oxygen.

If you are a child trying to get a chamber for your parent. I know this is hard for you.  If you honestly can't afford a chamber for your parent I will do my best to make your chamber affordable. I consider this a dire situation as well. Please please please have the prescription before you call me.
